Medical Payments vs Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Which is right for me?

Medical Payments – This is used to help pay medical costs for you and your passengers. This coverage can help pay: ambulance fees, hospital bills, dental work, chiropractic services, specialized nursing care and other medical expenses. If you have a personal health insurance policy, this can complement it to provide additional benefits. Even if your personal health policy does not cover some of these items, you may have coverage through Medical Payments on your automobile insurance policy. You may also be covered for injuries, caused by a vehicle, while riding as a passenger in someone else’s vehicle and even as a pedestrian.
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – PIP offers the coverage of Medical Payments with some additional benefits.  Some of the items that can be covered by PIP insurance (but not medical payments) are: lost wages, childcare costs, and funeral costs.
If you have adequate personal health insurance, you will want to take that into consideration when deciding if you need to carry either of these coverages. While they are both optional coverages, you will need to sign a rejection form if you choose not to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP).
If you have either of these coverages it will be shown on the declarations page of your policy. Should you have any questions about your coverage or you wish to add either of these coverages to your current policy, please contact the office. We will be happy to assist you.
